What is the Legislative Team?
Facilitated by MYCJ’s advocacy director and outreach coordinator, the Legislative Team serves as the official advocacy voice for MYCJ’s legislative priorities in the Maine State Legislature.
During the 2025 legislative session, the Team advocated for our legislative policies through:

Our 2025 legislative priorities included:
L.D. 958: An Act to Prohibit Eminent Domain on Existing Tribal Trust Lands
L.D. 1138: An Act to Reduce Pollution Associated with Transportation in Alignment with the State’s Climate Action Plan
L.D. 1543: An Act to Establish the Maine Green Schools Network
L.D. 1870: An Act to Establish a Climate Superfund Cost Recovery Program to Impose Penalties on Climate Polluters
L.D. 1949: An Act Regarding Energy Fairness
Expected Responsibilities & Time Commitment:
Attend biweekly virtual meetings, trainings, and workshops (approximately 1 hour each, twice per month on Zoom)
Write, edit, and present testimony to legislative committees (approx. 1-2 hours per month)
Email/call legislators to support or oppose various bills (approx. 30 minutes - 1 hour per month)
Total Time Commitment: 3.5 to 5 hours monthly (January - April 2026)
Qualifications & Prerequisites:
None! This is a learning experience and educational opportunity open to high schoolers and college students in the state of Maine. No prior experience in advocacy, organizing, or legislative affairs is required. This is also an excellent addition to your resume!
