High School Cohort
What is the High School Cohort?
MYCJ’s High School Cohort brings together school environmental groups from across the state to share ideas, troubleshoot challenges, and support each other’s projects aimed at creating positive change in their schools and communities. MYCJ provides mini-grants and outreach support for select projects. The cohort is peer-led by high school students.
Past Projects:
Maya (former High School cohort lead) started Dishes on Demand, a program at Yarmouth High School that allows teams and groups to borrow reusable plates and silverware for events as an alternative to disposable single-use plastics. Learn more.
The High School Cohort organized Plastic Free Lunch Day, a statewide effort that encouraged school cafeterias to go a full day without using single-use plastic dishes and utensils. The event took place in Portland, Waterville, and Yarmouth. The outcomes included Waterville and Yarmouth switching to metal utensils and Yarmouth eliminating plastic packaging for food with natural packaging (bananas and muffins).
